"When I see what this company is now, versus the way I thought it would be at conception, I'm overwhelmed with pride. To see it come this far, to be a part of so many special moments, and getting to do it with so many amazing people while seeing it continuing to expand..... it's a dream come true." - Founder, Jeffrey Newton
In January 2011, LV was founded as a valet parking service in downtown Charleston. Six months after launch, Lowcountry Valet encountered many difficulties as new local legislation threatened to put it out of business. Its founder, Jeffrey Newton, coming from a background in private events, started investing advertising dollars(a whopping $30/month) in the wedding sector hoping to supplement income. To his surprise, the new advertising brought clients looking for transportation services and not valet parking.
At this point, Jeffrey and the company were flat broke however this new influx of demand for services seemed like a good omen. He decided to figure out a way to fulfill it. Brokering a deal with a local rental company, LV began using rental vans to provide shuttle services for weddings in Charleston however this was still not providing enough income.
It was at this point (while Jeffrey was providing shuttle services for a wedding) that the idea for what Lowcountry Valet would become began to take shape. Vintage cars and buses for weddings in Charleston. And not just any cars and buses, but something with character and a story behind it. As a kid, Jeffrey always loved cars, especially "cool" vintage cars and it was this very love that would begin to turn Lowcountry Valet into a passion that would propel it forward in the years to come.
It was early 2012 now and with a direction to head, Jeffrey and LV still had a major problem..money. With banks unwilling to lend, Jeffrey approached other local transportation companies to pitch his idea and hopefully form a partnership to help fund his ideas. His ideas were dismissed by all companies except for one who agreed to fund a white school bus and said that Lowcountry Valet could act as the broker for it and receive a commission on each booking. While this wasn't ideal, it was the only option available. And so over the next year, during the weekdays Jeffrey worked for a local moving company, in the evenings he would answer client emails, and on the weekends he would drive shuttle vans for his LV clients.
By late 2012, LV had enough money in its account to buy it's very first vintage car - a 1950 Dodge Meadowbrook for $5,000.00. It looked great (from about 20 feet away) and later become known by LV's employees as the "Doge" on account of the "D" missing from the front of the hood. While being far from perfect, this wedding car was hard-earned and therefore very much appreciated and loved. By March 2013, LV was able to purchase its very first vintage bus, "Sunny". This bus had a journey of its own to find itself in the care of Jeffrey and Lowcountry Valet (for more info on its story click here). Every cent and spare moment was spent restoring Sunny to an "okay" condition and by early fall of 2013, she was ready for her debut.
Sunny was an instant sensation and it was at that moment Jeffrey knew he was on to something good. By summer 2014, Jeffrey was able to quit his other jobs and focus completely on Lowcountry Valet as it continued to flourish as new buses and cars joined the fleet. The rest, as they say, is history. To date, Lowcountry Valet's buses have been featured in multiple TV shows and movies, they've shuttled celebrities to and from their weddings, taken politicians on tours, and won a TON of awards for design as well as service.
